Recitation of Quran is a wonderful achievement of all Muslims. It makes you closer to Allah and it brings peace to your life. It will require time, diligent practice and a strategy.

Most people consider it to be very difficult and yet with the right attitude and training, anybody can do it. This tutorial will demonstrate step by step memorization of the Quran. This post does not matter whether you are young or old, a student or working.

1. Determine Your Intent

First, have the proper niyyah (intention). Learn the Quran to impress Allah not to get a name or to compete. The help of God comes with a sincere heart. Each Quranic letter is a reward. Make a little dua such as:

O Allah, make easy to me to memorize Your Book. This spiritual step will help you to concentrate. Even a little effort with good intention is highly blessed.

2. The right time is to choose.

Memorizing should be done in the early morning. Your mind is fresh and there are less distractions. Most researchers recommend that one should memorize following Fajr prayer. Attempt to have a regular schedule every day.

A peaceful and quiet atmosphere also assists. Never memorise when you are tired or stressed. Once you select a good time, you will remember quickly and recall longer.

3. Single Mus haf

When memorizing, always make use of the same copy of Quran. Your brain creates visual memory according to that layout.

When you alter the design or the script, it can get you confused. Use a single script (such as Madani script) and avoid frequent switching of pages. The visual consistency makes your memory and revision a lot easier in the long run.

4. Begin with Short Surahs

Start with the shorter surahs of the end of the Quran. These are less difficult and less long. By completing them in a short time you become confident and motivated. Good starting points would be Surahs such as Al-Fil, Quraish and Al-Kawthar.

After you have learned the short ones, gradually you can start learning longer surahs. This progressive development makes you strong.

5. Repeat Line by Line Many Times

The trick is repetition. Read the verses at least 10 to 15 times till it sticks. Read it in a slow and correct manner.

Hear a good Qari and endeavour to imitate the tone. Divide up big verses. Don’t rush. Learn one line, then go to the next. Good memorization is always based on repetition.

6. Daily Review of Old Lessons

You forget very soon without revision. It is good to gradually develop a habit of going over what you learnt the previous day. Revise not less than 20-30 minutes. Share your time: part to memorize new things, part to revise.

A lot of people forget since they concentrate on just new verses. Revision on a daily basis makes your memory powerful and permanent.

7. Know What You are Learning by Heart

Make an attempt to interpret every verse. It is easy to remember when you know what the verse means.

You can read translations even though Arabic is not your language. Get to know simple words. Knowledge creates emotional contact. What appeals to your heart you remember. Therefore, do not memorize blindly, but make a connection with the message.

8. Audio Support

Listen to your target surahs with apps or YouTube. Put the same reciter on every day. Listening to the verses usually enhances memory. Play it when you are walking, cooking or resting. Listening and reading aid the brain to memorize quicker. Put on headphones to be more concentrated. The use of Quran audio is a very effective one when used intelligently.

9. Read to a Person Every Day

Never fail to repeat your learned bit to a teacher or a relative. When there is no one to talk to, record the voice.

You will take more effort when you are sure someone is listening. They are also able to correct your mistakes. Confidence is gained through repetition every day. A good mentor will direct you through the process and assist you when you are stagnant.

10. Write What You Learn By Heart

Your memory is built up by writing the verses. It also enhances your concentration and spelling. Buy a notebook and write one page a day. It does not consume a lot of time. Writing is an exercise of your mind and hand. This two-fold process aids the verses to remain longer in your head.

11. Do not Overburden Yourself

Start small. Perhaps 3 or 5 lines per day. Gradually add it on when you feel like it. Attempting to memorize too much will only make you tired which will make you lose interest. I would rather know little well than a lot incorrectly. Make it simple and smooth. Allah adores regular actions, even though they are tiny.

12. Avoid Sins

Sins shut up your memory and your peace. Make an attempt to lead a clean life. Shun haram entertainment, bad company or bad talk. Clean your heart and eyes. Pray, do charity, and seek barakah in your time with Allah. An unblemished heart remembers more and quicker.

13. Attend a Quran Class

Take part in an online or practical Quran memorization course. The discipline is developed in groups. A teacher monitors and eliminates errors. Classmates are also a source of motivation to you. Online classes are many and free and paid. Ensure that the teacher is an experienced one who knows your level. You should join online Quran academy because this is the best way to memoring the Quran.

14. Keep Going and Be Patient

Hifz is time consuming. You can forget, fall into mistakes, or be lazy. Don’t quit. Even great Huffaz experienced difficult times. Just keep on, at any pace. Seek the assistance of Allah. You will do it with dua, patience and hard work. You never lose your efforts.

15. Pray to Succeed

Close every meeting with dua. Pray to Allah to guard your memory, strengthen your heart and finish the Quran. The success is in the hands of Him. Say: Ya Allah, make the Quran the source of my heart. Earnest duas unlock doors that you do not expect.

Conclusion

The process of memorizing the Quran is life transforming. It offers favours, concentration and proximity to Allah. Don’t rush. Make baby steps. Be consistent. Apply such tools as repetition, understanding, audio, writing and revision on a daily basis. Stay off the sins and continue making dua. You will manage it–inshaAllah. Simply start today and Allah will assist you all along.
