The Permanent Change of Station (PCS) process represents a thrilling experience, but one that remains overwhelming for most people. When you have settled down in your new environment following a PCS move, you need to complete the remaining crucial tasks to create a smooth transition before beginning your new assignment at your station.

Update Your Contact Information

One of your initial duties following your military relocation is to update your contact information throughout the military and civilian world. Begin by informing your unit and the base personnel office of your new address and telephone number. That will keep you available for significant updates. Contact both DFAS (Defense Finance and Accounting Service) and TRICARE government agencies and your civilian organizations, like banks and credit card providers, about your new residential address. Using the U.S. Postal Service to update your address will keep your mail from missing and redirect essential documents to your new location.

Talk About Banking and Financial Matters

Once you have relocated, take the time to go over your financial records and update them as needed. Inform your bank of your new address so statements and mail can be sent there. If you are moving to an area where you will need to use a different banking facility, look into changing banks or modifying your account to fit your new address.
