Whether you’re a new or returning player, Genshin Impact can be quite a lot to get into, with new content constantly being added to this ever expanding world. So let’s dive into what you should keep in mind when you’re starting out.
And what better way to get into the game quicker than using a Genshin Impact boosting service to either top up on the game’s currencies? Or skip over to a specific part of the game that you really want to experience.
Choosing the right twin
So you just clicked play, and you’re greeted by a very cool cinematic cutscene where the two protagonists of the game are fighting together against some (for now) unknown being. After the cutscene is done, you’re given the choice to pick between one of these two.
Now, very important to note that plot-wise you won’t get any differences between these two, but they do have some slight differences. Lumine, the sister, is slightly stronger than her brother, who is in turn faster. This is a very slight difference, but one I wish I knew back when I started. So, keep it in mind!
Story quests
At the beginning, you’ll have to do some pretty easy quests. These are essential, not only because you get to learn about how the game works, but also because this is how you unlock new mechanics. And even a lot of other goodies like currency and even characters to join your roster. So make sure to do every story quest that you can to access every kind of content that the game has to offer.
Exploration
Once you finish the lengthy introduction and tutorials, you will be guided through Teyvat, and you’ll see different enemies to fight and materials to pick up along the way. Make sure to pick up everything you see! Specially at the start, you never know what you’ll need in the future! Some of these materials, like flowers, spawn after a certain amount of real world time, so make sure you pick them up unless you want to be stuck waiting like a chump!
Basics of combat: elements
Every enemy in Genshin Impact has weaknesses and strengths that are tied to the game’s element mechanic. The elements are: Pyro, Hydro, Electro, Cryo, Anemo, Geo and Dendro. Most enemies have a pretty obvious weakness but with others you might need to experiment. You can also check different forums for useful information about how to fight enemies.
Each character has an elemental affinity that determines their skills and abilities. Elements interact to create Elemental Reactions, which come in the form of different battle effects, so make sure to experiment!
Characters
Characters fall into one of three roles:
- DPS: Focusing on dealing direct damage
- Sub-DPS: Characters that deal off-field damage that deploy Elemental Skills or Bursts to provide Elemental Reactions and supplement damage for the Main DPS.
- Support: provide heals, buffs and shields to the rest of the team.
Wishing
You’re gifted some pretty solid characters at the start of the story that will be more than enough for the challenges they put in front of you.
But the game also has a gacha system it uses for you to pull different characters and gear through “wishes”
There are three banners at all times in the game, these are the different categories where you spend different currencies in order to “wish” characters in to your team.
- Permanent banner: Contains standard 5-star and 4-star characters, this banner has no time limit, and it updates every time a new character is added to the game.
- Limited time banner: Like the name suggest, this one offers time exclusive characters, and it will leave after a set period of time. These banners’ characters have a higher chance to be pulled!
- Weapon banner: Will only pull weapons for your characters.
Currencies
Primogems: This is the main form of currency in Genshin Impact, and you’ll need them for almost all the things you’ll want to get. You can get them by: Completing missions or commissions, opening chests, exploring the world, participating in events and by redeeming promotional codes.
It is highly recommended you follow hoyoverse in their social medias so you can get all the latest codes!
Primogems can be used to purchase Intertwined Fates and Acquaint Fates, which are required to make wishes in the different banners.
Fates: There are two kinds of fates:
- Intertwined Fate: Used for Limited-Time Event Banners
- Acquaint Fate: Used for the Standard Banner and beginner banners, which contain a permanent pool of characters and weapons.
These can be obtained through Primogems, the Battle Pass, in-game events, and certain Adventure Rank rewards.
Leveling and ascending
By the use of EXP books, battling with them and completing tasks, your characters will earn exp and level up. Once they reach level 20 you can ascend them which will raise their base stats and give them useful new abilities!
Some tips
- Don’t spend all your primogems! Keep them for special events or to get a specific character that’s back in rotation. Once a character leaves, there’s a chance they won’t be back for a very long time. We’re talking months!
- When there’s a limited time event, it absolutely takes priority over any other objective. It will probably get you very useful rewards!
- There’s teleport waypoints all over the world map. Any time you’re exploring a new area, it’s very recommended to beeline towards them and try to get them activated so you can get back quickly if you need to.
In conclusion
Graphically, it’s beautiful, gameplaywise, it’s engaging, storywise it’s thrilling. There’s very little to complain about Genshin Impact if you approach it the right way. Hoyoverse has a great games under its belt and this is probably their star child. Keep at it and if you’re ever stuck just come back to this guide to help you out of a slump!
